NTWCA Awards
Each academic year, the North Texas Writing Centers Association sponsors two awards: the Mary Nell Kivikko Excellence in Scholarship Award, for outstanding scholarship in writing center studies, and the Outstanding Tutor Award, for outstanding tutoring in and significant contributions to an area writing center. Deadlines and other details below.

Mary Nell Kivikko Excellence in Scholarship Award
The Mary Nell Kivikko Excellence in Scholarship Award is designed to recognize outstanding scholarship in writing center theory and practice. The award is named for Mary Nell Kivikko, a 1950s graduate, and instructor of Texas Woman's University's English department. The first award was presented at the Spring 2006 conference. Guidelines The award is open to all writing center professional staff, graduate tutors, and undergraduate peer tutors in the South Central Writing Centers Association region (Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana). Applicants must be currents members of the NTWCA. Proposals should focus on the subject area of writing center theory and practice. The 250-word abstract of the entry should include a title, and the name and contact information of the presenter. Please submit entries to the current NTWCA President. Electronic submissions only, please. The winner will be notified via email, and the paper based on the winning proposal will be presented at the NTWCA spring conference, at which time the winner will receive the award. |
Outstanding Tutor Award
The Outstanding Tutor Award is designed to recognize professional staff who not only demonstrate excellent tutoring skills, but also make significant contributions to their writing center. The award was established in Fall 2006, and the first award was presented at the Spring 2007 conference. Guidelines The award is open to part-time or full-time consultants, as well as graduate or undergraduate peer tutors at a writing center in the SCWCA region. Nominees must be current members of the NTWCA. Writing center directors must nominate a consultant who is an employee in his/her writing center. Nominations should include the name, institution, address, telephone, and email address of the consultant and/or tutor as well as a letter explaining why the individual should be considered for the award, including information regarding tutoring abilities and contributions to the center. The winner will be notified via email, and will be recognized and presented the award at the spring conference. |
